Docent/Gallery Guide

  • Lead School and Special Tours

  • Lead Current and Permanent Exhibition Tours

  • Act as Informative and Watchful “Gallery Guides”

Docent/Gallery Guide Volunteers fill two specific, yet overlapping, roles at KCAM. First, Docents lead tours of KCAM exhibits. Tour groups are usually no larger than 20-25 people and can comprise any age from elementary children to adult seniors. (Attempts will be made to match Docents with age groups that are most appropriate for their expertise, but Docents must be comfortable leading tours of all ages.) Tours usually last from 30 to 60 minutes depending on content and age group. Docents will be trained on proper procedure regarding leading tours, providing positive guest experiences and presenting vehicles and Kansas City history in an engaging manner. Secondly, Docents fill a critical role within the Museum by acting as Gallery Guides. A Gallery Guide’s primary responsibilities are maintaining the security of guests and vehicles in a given space. They maintain security of the vehicles at all times, preventing theft, vandalism and unauthorized touching. Simultaneously, Gallery Guides are on hand to greet visitors as they enter gallery spaces, answer questions and inform visitors about the exhibitions and KCAM policies.
