Junior Docents are teen volunteers (ages 13-17) who engage with Museum guests, volunteers, and staff sharing their love for all things automotive.
Junior Docents meet at least twice a week (Wednesday & Friday) and also attend one Cars & Coffee,
Junior Docents will develop skills in public speaking as well as expand their knowledge and understanding of the automobile and basic business practices.
What do Junior Docents do?
Junior Docents attend bi-weekly sessions led by volunteers and staff. In these sessions, they learn about Kansas City automotive history, the Museum’s collection, basic automotive maintenance, design, and Museum operations.
This program is developed to align with STEM and STEAM practices.
What is the schedule?
(SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY):
-Auto maintenance class
(EDUCATION & PROGRAMMING):
-Tour day (lead a tour)
(DESIGN & ART):
-Design a CO2 dragster
-Design and race a pinewood derby car (team building experience with Museum staff)
(ENGINEERING & MATH):
-The Great Car Show (work with our volunteers and staff to design
the layout and logistics for our annual fundraiser, The Great Car Show.
Schedule subject to change. Junior Docents will meet on Wednesdays and Fridays, and one Saturday during Cars & Coffee.
